Welcome to Being British

What does it mean to be British - or 'English'? Up until a few generations ago, this question was fairly simple to answer, both for people living in the UK and for people outside. That was then. Today the picture is much more mixed.

The book Being British offers a variety of angles to clarify what it means to be British today in a world marked by globalization, Europeanization, migration, financial crises and nationalism.

Here on this website you will find nine interviews with British citizens who comment on specific aspects of what it means to be British today. You will find young people from England, Wales and Northern Ireland, a young MP, an activist, a journalist and an author.

You'll also find useful links for the six chapters. The links may be useful for your everyday English classes, for writing your SRP and for cross-curricular activites such as at or studieretning work.
